Student Activities

Student Life Activities Committee @ King (SLACK)

The Student Life Activities Committee at King (SLACK) is the official student programming board within the division of Student Affairs.  During the academic year, SLACK sponsors events throughout the week and on weekends.  SLACK’s programs are intended to develop a fun and entertaining campus environment for both residential and commuter students.  In addition to providing entertainment, SLACK also seeks to develop events that engage culture, develop recreational and social skills, support education through partnerships with faculty and staff, and promote spiritual growth through collaboration with the Chaplain.

SLACK’s student structure consists of a Student Director, four Area Coordinators to oversee MTV (Movies, Theatre and Variety), Java Jams (Concerts and Coffeehouses), Special Events (Novelties, Speakers, etc.), Outdoor Recreation (Hiking, Biking, etc.), a Technical Coordinator and multiple student volunteers called SLACKlings. SLACK is advised by the Coordinator of Student Activities and is funded through the Student Activity Fee.

Student Government Association (S.G.A.)

The Student Government of King College stands for both the responsible and responsive exercise of student power through an organizational framework, which provides an orderly and desirable way for students to deal with their own needs, goals, and problems.  SGA receives an annual budget from the Student Activity Fee through which it allots monies to officially chartered student organizations and conducts its own programming.

The executive officers of the Student Government Association are excited about this school year and the opportunity to represent the student body.  Become involved in the S.G.A. by communicating with representatives, attending weekly meetings, running for office, and most importantly, vote.  For more information please contact the S.G.A. office or visit our website.

GPS Representative – GPS Cohort Representatives serve as the liaison to the King College Student Government Association (SGA) for the students within their cohort.  Concerns and/or suggestions that are appropriate for the SGA can be voiced at the cohort representative meetings held twice per year.  If a concern or suggestion needs immediate attention, cohort representatives can email the SGA at sga@king.edu or call the SGA office at 423.652.4753.  The Student Government President and Vice President serve as the Student Government representatives to the Graduate & Professional Studies cohort representatives.

Student Cohort Representatives

At the beginning of each new cohort a cohort representative is elected.  Each new cohort selects someone they want as their voice to King College.  The representative will attend the cohort representative meetings held twice a year.  The duties of the representative are listed below:

Duties of the Cohort Representative

Community Life Standards

Within the King College community, the learning that takes place, the socializing, the recreation, and the common experiences are fully appreciated when shared with others.  A community must then agree upon common principles.  To that end, King College has established the Community Life Standards as guiding principles that allow for individuals to live, learn, work, worship and play together.

The entire King College community must serve to help facilitate the development of personal standards, community responsibility, and individual maturity among students.

Honor Code

The Honor Code describes each individual’s responsibility to uphold the community life standards and campus policies as a member of the King College community:

On my honor, I pledge to abide by the King College policies described in the Student Handbook.  I understand that students of King College are to be honest in words and actions, in particular, not to lie, cheat, plagiarize, or steal.  I pledge to conduct myself in a manner based on Christian values and to require the same of fellow students.  I understand that a violation of this Honor Code may result in my appearance before the Honor Council.

All students are expected to sign a form pledging to abide by the King College Honor Code.  For more information regarding violations of the Honor Code, please consult the Student Judicial Process section.

On and Off Campus Conduct

Students are expected to conduct themselves,  whether on or off campus, in a way that is consistent with the mission and vision of King College as well as local, state, and federal laws.  King College campus policies also apply to non-residential commuter students. Students at off campus King College instructional sites and those participating in nursing clinicals, student teacher assignments, internships, and community service experiences are subject to the college’s honor code, as well as, the host site’s organizational policies and procedures. Students visiting a foreign country must abide by the laws of that country.  Students who violate campus policies may be subject to disciplinary action.
